Pao’s facial fitness company, Facial Fit, is now offering a fix for the issue, saying it’s working with Facebook on a fix.
According to the company’s blog post, Facal Fit “has received multiple reports of users experiencing performance issues with their FaceTime calls after installing the latest version of its Facial Performance app.”
It says that while Facal Fitness is “actively working to address these issues,” it wants to make clear that this is “a temporary issue.”
Facebook says it’s aware of the issue.
Facal fitness is a facial fitness device that uses the Facebook Facial Intelligence technology to monitor your facial expressions and automatically translate them into speech.
It also uses artificial intelligence and computer vision to automatically translate facial expressions into text and images.
Pao told Business Insider that Facal’s FaceTime app will be “available in the coming weeks” for users who have already installed the update.
Pledging to fix Facal, Facebook says that the company will offer a free trial “with no cancellation fees.”
Pao and her husband, who are in their late 60s, had a rocky relationship and left the company in 2014.
She filed for bankruptcy in November 2017 and sued Facebook in February 2018 for sexual harassment and other charges, alleging that the social network and its then-chief operating officer, Sheryl Sandberg, had retaliated against her for speaking up about the issues.
The suit claims that Pao was fired after complaining about sexual harassment on Facebook.
Pending trial, Facebook has not commented on the lawsuit.
FacialFit said in its post that it’s currently working with the company to fix its facial fitness software.
“We’re taking steps to ensure that our app works as it should in a world where people use facial intelligence and other technologies to interact with each other and communicate,” the company wrote.
Facetech, another facial fitness startup, announced in November 2018 that it was merging with Facebook.
The new company said it would continue to operate independently and focus on a number of areas, including improving the Facetest app and increasing the number of facial expressions that users can use.
Faceprints, which was founded in 2014 by Pao, is a company that sells “facial fingerprint scanners and skin biometric technology,” according to its website.
The company claims to have “the largest portfolio of biometric scanning solutions in the market,” but it’s unclear how accurate its facial biometric products are.
It is unclear how many people Facepower users have in their families.
In addition to Pao , Facebook said it has fired at least three other employees over the issue: The company has not released any information about how many of those fired were women or people of color.
